RED-COLORED DEVONIAN SEDIMENTS OF THE CHERVONE TRACT (TERNOPIL AREA): MINERAL-LITOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND THEIR USE

Abstract

Presented here are the results of the complex macro- and microscopic research of red-colored terrigenous rocks of the Devonian sediments of the Chervone tract (Ternopil region), the entire thickness of which is composed of rhythms, in which there is a change up the cutters of sandstones more fine-grained – siltstones and argillities. Sandstones are finely- and medium-grained, sometimes-coarse gray, light gray, greenish-gray, and reddish- brown. In the composition of sandstone there is quartz and oligomiktic, with fieldspars and micas, sometimes there are impurities of glauconite. In reddish-brown sandstones, there are present iron hydroxides. The composition of matrix is mostly carbonate, sometimes comes with impurities of clay, silica and hydromicas. Cementation is ususally contact-cavity and cavity, sometimes quartz regenerative. Siltstones are mostly gray, greenish-gray, reddish-brown, oligomiktic medium-grained, sometimes coarse-grained, and composed of quartz, rarely-feldspars and scales of mica. Matrix is a contact-cavity and cavity silica-hydromicas, rarely-carbonate. Argilites are dark gray, sometimes gray with a greenish tinge or reddish brown, mostly siltstones. Hydramicas material forms the bulk of the rock to which a small amount of silica or carbonate material is mixed. The features of using these rocks for building and household needs are viewed, the influence of destructive environmental factors on the stone material is described, and all forms of destruction of the stone are recorded and described.
